DR Congo prepares for 50th anniversary festivities
The Democratic Republic of Congo plans a festive celebration of its 50 year anniversary of independence in June 2010. The festivities offer endless tourism investment opportunities, which the country’s tourism office intends to explore.
DRC Director-General for Tourism, Ms Berthe Akatshi Osako, invited travellers to plan a visit to the country not only for the anniversary celebrations but also for the country’s rich natural diversity and unique animals.
“DR Congo is a vibrant destination that promises to change travellers forever. In addition to the Congo River, Africa's most powerful river and the second most voluminous river in the world, the country is home to five world heritage sites and many rare and endemic animal species including the common chimpanzee, the bonobo, the mountain gorilla, okapi and white rhino.
“As soccer enthusiasts make plans to visit Southern Africa ahead of the FIFA World Cup, we invite travellers to include the DR Congo in their itineraries – it will be an unforgettable build-up to their sport outing,” said Osako.
